Frequently asked questions
How do I connect to a database?
On the first launch PSQLCarbon opens the connections screen and looks for PostgreSQL servers running on your Mac. You can also paste a connection string such as postgresql://user:password@host:5432/database. To add more later, open the connection menu at the top and choose "Add New Connection".
How do I set up the AI assistant?
Click your avatar at the top right to open the profile. Under "AI Assistant Settings", choose a provider. For DeepSeek or OpenAI, paste your own API key. For LM Studio or Ollama, start the local server and pick a model. Then click the robot icon in the header. The assistant asks before it changes anything in your database.
Do I need to install pg_dump for backups?
No. pg_dump and pg_restore from PostgreSQL 18 come with the app and can back up any server from PostgreSQL 9.2 onwards. There is also a built-in engine that writes plain SQL you can restore anywhere.
Where is my data stored?
Only on your Mac. See the privacy policy for details.
